Michelle Salz-Smith - CID, NCIDQ

Principal Interior Designer

Michelle is the founder and principal interior designer of Studio Surface. Originally from the Midwest, and following a stint in Dallas, Michelle headed to southern California where she led an office and design team for an established commercial interior design firm. In 2009 she branched out on her own and created Studio Surface.  Influenced by the aesthetics and attitudes from the various regions she has lived, Michelle draws upon her love for all things design and lifetime of visual experiences to create unique designs for her clients. Michelle is a nationally licensed Interior Designer [NCIDQ] and professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers [ASID] as well as a Certified Interior Designer [CID] in the state of California with a BFA from the Art Institute of Dallas.

 When Michelle isn't designing spaces, you can find her searching for the perfect happy hour spot which ignites “creativity and inspiration” she says.  

 

 

jennifer anderson

Director of Interiors

Jennifer's work is influenced by experience and knowledge gained from her travels, passion for all things design, art, and photography. Graduating from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles CA, Jennifer has gained more than 10 years of design experience since then.  She has developed extensive skills across several industries within the design realm working on hospitality, multi family and residential projects. Her past involvement with renowned design firms such as Commune, Kelly Wearstler and Shawn Hausman,  has allowed Jennifer to add a refreshing and creative twist to each project. 

When Jennifer can’t be found in the studio, she’s been known to sneak away on camping expeditions to gain “clarity and inspiration” she says.

 

 

Ana Luisa GAITAN-allied asid

 Interior Designer  -  Studio Manager - Technical Lead

Ana places importance on research and ideation to conceptualize and execute design concepts. Her inspiration comes from her love of art, design and the unexpected simple things of everyday life. She speaks fluently in both English and Spanish allowing her to be a major contribution to international projects. Ana’s talent in graphic art has enhanced Studio Surface presentations, client meetings, and concept development. She began her design education at New School of Architecture and Design, and graduated with a BFA in Interior Design from Design Institute of San Diego.

 When Ana cannot concentrate she can be found feeding her caffeine habit at the local coffee shop where she finds “focus and creativity” she says.
